NGM MISSION

Living out our love for God and for others is an integral part of who we are as ngm, and throughout the year you may get the opportunity to get involved in various projects and events. We believe it not only helps to open our eyes to the needs all around us, but getting stuck in is invaluable to growth and development of our character.

Arts-based Mission
This may be local, national or international, and can offer different opportunities to perform and teach your artform, which in turn can help you develop as an artist. This can take place in the form of school workshops, after school clubs, concerts etc. And can be anything from a one off event to a whole week. Again, you will be working alongside others in ngm as well as churches and organisations who we partner with.

International Mission
Over the last few years we have worked with organisations in Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya and Belarus. Every year we take a couple of teams on a short-term international mission, using the arts to share our hearts and passion with others as well as spending time with the hurt and needy in the world. Music and the arts is a common language which traverses cultural boundaries and carries beauty into places which would seem hopeless and enables us to share and come alongside others even when we can’t speak their language.

Over the last few years teams have visited South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya and Belarus. These trips will give you the chance to use your artform as well as see God use you in amazing ways through spending time with the broken and the needy in the world.

MOZAMBIQUE.
The team works in the town of Pemba (north Mozambique) with an organisation called Iris Ministries. Iris is a well-established organisation with a few bases in Mozambique. Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world and over the last 20 years has been devastated by war, famine and corrupt governance. In Pemba Iris homes about 120 children, split into smaller family units with an ‘auntie’ for each. They provide these children with family and a community in which they can find hope for a future. They are also heavily involved helping people in the local community as well as running evangelistic outreaches to more rural places in Mozambique. The team going out to Iris gets involved in all different aspects of the work that goes on at Pemba. They run dance workshops, help with a feeding programme that feeds 800 kids every day from the local area, go into the local prisons and hospitals to share with people and pray with people and join a couple of outreach trips into the bush. Iris’s work is heavily dependant on volunteers visiting, so the team will be of great value to the organisation.
Iris Ministries is an incredible organisation that literally lives out the gospel and just pours out love on everyone they encounter. It is an amazing opportunity to be challenged in many ways, to live amongst people who have literally nothing but yet are still just like us.

PIETERMARITZBURG, SOUTH AFRICA.
The team work with a local organisation called ‘SLOT’ (School Leaver’s Opportunities Training) helping to train about 120 young people from the local township, to give them a better chance of getting jobs and generally a brighter future.
The team get involved in SLOT’s ‘Life Skills’ programme which trains young people who have little or no qualifications. It looks at sessions from money management to healing from the past to relationships and how to set up your own business. It’s an opportunity to build relationships with them and simply share our lives with them, to practically live out the hope which Jesus has given us.
